# Explanations and the Trade Preview

Two helpers sit beside the settings themselves: explanations that say what a row does, and a preview that shows what your current values would do to a sample trade. Both react to changes you have not saved yet.

## Explanations

The **Explanations** switch in the Settings header (its full name is **Show explanations and examples**) controls the reading aids on the page:

* **On** (the default): option cards say what each option means, example lines and explanatory notes appear, and each section opens with its short intro.
* **Off**: the cards, examples, notes and section intros are hidden. Each row keeps its one-line description, and warnings and the reason a row is disabled stay, because they describe the state of the setting rather than explain it.

The switch is remembered in this browser. It changes nothing about how TTMT trades.

### The ? help on a row

A row that has a longer explanation has a **?** button next to its label. It works whether Explanations is on or off. On a desktop it opens the explanation under the row; on a phone it opens a sheet.

## The docked preview

The preview turns your current values into a worked sample trade. With **Preview** switched on in the header it docks as a column beside the page from 1280 px wide. Between 768 and 1279 px a **Preview** button opens it instead, when nothing is unsaved (with unsaved edits, open the preview from the save bar). A badge, **Unsaved edits included**, shows when it is using changes you have not saved. See [Trade Preview](/trade-config/trade-preview) for how to read the trade itself.

### Preview as

**Preview as** chooses whose settings the sample trade uses:

* **Account defaults** (the default) uses the selected account's defaults.
* A channel name uses that channel's preset first, then the account defaults. The line under the control says which: "Using: preset {name} (this channel's), then account defaults."

The list holds the channels on the selected account that use a preset. On a preset's own page the preview is fixed to that preset, then the account's defaults.

### Full signal or Alert only

| Sample signal | What it sends |
|---|---|
| **Full signal** | Entry, a 60-pip stop and three TPs at 20, 60 and 120 pips. |
| **Alert only** (the starting choice) | A bare alert with no stop or TPs, so your fallback stop and TPs are used. |

### The trade and What if…

| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| **The trade** | The orders the sample signal would place, with entry layers, stop, TPs and the sizing figures. |
| **What if…** | How the same trade behaves in retracement scenarios, such as price moving into your deeper layers. |

In the **One page** layout, an **In view** line under the controls names the section on screen and says whether its settings feed the preview. Some sections don't change it, and the line says so.

### What the preview leaves out

The footnote under the preview is exact about its limits. It uses sample prices on this account's balance. Previewing as a channel includes its preset, and a symbol's exception is applied only when the line above the preview says so. It does **not** include the channel's fallback SL/TP, a signal's high-risk sizing or loss-streak sizing, and your broker's minimum lot can change the order count. Treat it as a close estimate, not a quote of the real trade.

If a field has a value that can't be used, the phone preview bar says "Fix the highlighted field to see the preview" until you correct it.
