Applying Presets
A preset does nothing until a channel uses it. Each channel, for each account it trades on, points at one preset or at your account defaults (Use account settings). This page covers every way to give a channel a preset, switching and removing it, when a change takes effect, and a worked example of exactly how a setting's value is decided once a preset is in place.
The quick picker
Wherever you choose a channel's preset, TTMT shows the same quick picker. Its title names the channel and the account ("Preset for Gold VIP on Pepperstone ••2345"). It lists Use account settings (no preset), your Recently used presets, then Other presets, with a Search presets box once you have more than six.
Pick one and it saves immediately — there is no separate Save button. A toast confirms it ("Gold VIP on Pepperstone ••2345 now uses Gold Tight.") and offers Undo, which puts back exactly what was there before. The picker's footer says what the change reaches:
Changes apply to new signals right away. Open trades keep the SL, TPs and size they were opened with, but use the new breakeven, trailing, redistribution and signal-update settings from now on.
Two checks keep a pick honest:
- Replacing a preset asks first. If the channel already runs another preset on that account, TTMT asks Replace the preset on {channel}? and names the preset being replaced, the new one, and the account.
- A change made elsewhere is never overwritten silently. If the preset was changed in another tab or device since you opened the picker, TTMT asks Use {choice} anyway? and offers to keep the stored one instead.
Four places to choose a preset
1. On the channel card
On the Channels page, each card has a status line per account, such as Running on Pepperstone ••2345 · Gold Tight. Click the preset in that line (or Account settings if it has none) to open the quick picker for the account chosen in the account slider. This is the fastest path when you're scanning your channels.
2. On the channel's page
Open the channel. The accounts table at the top has one row per account with a Preset cell; click it to open the quick picker for that account. The row's ⋯ menu has Change preset too. The same choice also appears in the Setup tab under Preset per account ("Lot size, layers and TP strategy come from the preset or the account."), where a row with a preset shows how many settings it customises.
3. When you add the channel to an account
On the channel's page, Add… on an account row opens Add {channel} to {account}?. Its Preset row lets you pick the preset that account should use before you press Add to this account. TTMT adds the channel first and only then sets the preset, and the toast tells you which of three things happened:
- Added. It runs on {preset}. — both worked.
- Added with account settings. The preset {preset} wasn't applied. — the channel was added but the preset wasn't set; use Choose preset in the toast to try again.
- If the add itself is refused, the toast says why, and nothing is set.
4. From the preset: Choose channels…
Open the preset in Settings → Presets. Its header has a Used by list (chips like "Gold VIP · Pepperstone ••2345") and a Choose channels… button. The dialog Channels using {name} lists your channels grouped by account, with a note on each row saying what will happen ("Uses Gold Loose now → switches to Gold Tight", "Goes back to the account defaults"). Tick the channels you want and press Switch {n} channels and save. The row notes stand in for the replace confirm, so there is no second dialog.
Only channels running on an account are listed for it; to add a channel to an account, use Add… on the channel's page. While the preset has unsaved edits, Choose channels… is disabled with "Save your changes first."
Different presets per account
If a channel runs on only one account, you choose one preset and you're finished. If it runs on several accounts, each account row has its own preset, so the same channel can run "Conservative Live" on your live account and "Aggressive Demo" on your demo account at the same time. There is no "one preset per channel" limit — it's one preset per channel-and-account.
Why this matters: imagine one Gold channel feeding a $200k prop account and a $3k personal account. With per-account presets you set "Prop Tight" on the funded account and "Personal Loose" on the personal account from the same channel's page. Without it, both accounts would be forced onto one preset and you'd have to choose between protecting the prop account and trading the personal account normally.
TIP
On a channel card, the picker acts on the account chosen in the account slider. Read the picker's title ("Preset for … on …") before you pick.
Removing an account from a channel, and adding it back
On the channel's page, each account row offers two different ways to stop:
- Pause… keeps the account on the channel — with its preset — but stops new trades from the channel there. Resume brings it back and nothing needs redoing.
- Remove from this account… (in the row's ⋯ menu) takes the account off the channel. The dialog says what stops, that removing doesn't close trades or cancel orders by itself, and "Kept: this account's preset (…) is remembered for 30 days." It also offers Pause on {account} instead if you only meant to stop it for a while.
When you add a removed account back within those 30 days, the Add dialog says "Will run on {preset} (restored)." Tick Use account settings instead if you'd rather start that account on your account defaults. After 30 days the memory expires and a re-added account starts on your account defaults.
Removing a channel altogether (Remove channel…) removes all of its accounts. Your presets themselves are never deleted — they stay in your list, ready to use again.
What changes the moment you choose
Choosing a preset has three precise effects on how signals resolve:
- Settings the preset sets replace your account defaults for that channel's signals on that account.
- Settings the preset leaves alone keep following your account defaults — and keep tracking future account changes automatically.
- A switch the preset sets to off stays off for that channel even if your account has it on.
Example of the follow-the-account case: leave breakeven alone in the preset, then turn account breakeven off — the channel's breakeven turns off too, no preset edit needed.
One thing a preset can never do: loosen your account's Daily limits. The per-account daily-loss halt applies to every channel whichever preset it uses — a preset can shape a trade's size and targets, and add its own daily budget, but it can't set or relax your account's enforced loss ceiling.
When a change takes effect
Choosing, switching or removing a preset is not a single "applies everywhere now" event. It reaches different parts of a trade differently:
| What you changed | New signals | Trades already open |
|---|---|---|
| Sizing, layers, entry strategy, order placement | Applied immediately | Not rebuilt — an open position's entry structure, SL, TPs and size stay as they were placed |
| Breakeven, trailing, redistribution, channel updates | Applied immediately | Pick up the new preset — these are read live, from now on |
| Per-trade loss and profit limit | Applied immediately | Frozen — the limits are snapshotted when the trade opens and don't change mid-trade |
In plain terms, as the picker's footer says: changes apply to new signals right away. Open trades keep the SL, TPs and size they were opened with, but use the new breakeven, trailing, redistribution and signal-update settings from now on.
Don't expect a preset switch to re-shape an open position
Switching a channel's preset won't resize or re-layer a position that's already running — that structure is locked in at entry. What it does change is ongoing management (breakeven, trailing, redistribution, channel updates) on that trade. So switch deliberately, and don't count on a mid-trade switch to rescue a position's sizing.
How a setting's value is decided (worked example)
Only two sources set a default: the channel's preset or your account defaults (symbol exceptions aside, which win for their own symbol's size, stop and TPs). Once those resolve, the signal's own SL and TP prices are used by default — but "Always use my stop, not the signal's" and "Always use my TPs, not the signal's" can replace them, and safety checks can correct an out-of-range value.
Account defaults: Lot size 0.10, Front-Loaded entries, Progressive TPs, breakeven on (from TP1, 2-pip buffer), trailing stop off. Always use my stop / TPs: off.
Preset "Conservative Gold": Lot size 0.01, Progressive TPs, trailing stop on at 30 pips. Breakeven and entries left to the account.
Signal: BUY, Entry 2850.00, SL 2844.00, TP1 2853.00, TP2 2856.00.
| Setting | Resolved value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Direction / Entry / SL / TP1 / TP2 | BUY / 2850.00 / 2844.00 / 2853.00 / 2856.00 | Signal (no override on) |
| Lot size | 0.01 | Preset |
| Entry strategy | Front-Loaded | Account defaults (the preset leaves it alone) |
| TP strategy | Progressive | Preset |
| Breakeven | On (TP1, 2 pips) | Account defaults (the preset leaves it alone) |
| Trailing stop | On (30 pips) | Preset |
Because neither override is on here, the signal's SL and TPs are used. Turn on "Always use my stop, not the signal's" in the preset and the SL column would instead show your fallback stop, converted to a price.
INFO
The signal's SL/TP prices are honoured by default, unless you've turned on one of the "Always use my …" settings or a safety check corrects a bad value — "the signal always wins" isn't accurate. When a signal has no SL, the channel's fallback stop is used first, then your symbol exception, then the preset or account stop. See Per-Asset Overrides.
Switching and removing a preset
To switch, pick a different preset in the quick picker. To remove, pick Use account settings — the channel, on that account, goes back to your account defaults, like every other channel.
For example, once you've followed a channel long enough to trust it, you set it back to Use account settings and it now trades with your account defaults.
Around a high-impact news release, this remains useful for what comes next: swap a channel from "Open Market" to "News Safe" — smaller size, breakeven at TP1, runners off — before the release so new signals are handled cautiously, and swap back afterwards with Undo or the picker. Just remember the swap won't resize a position that's already open.
Seeing which preset is active
The preset is visible in four places:
- The channel card's status line ("Running on … · Gold Tight").
- The Preset column of the channel page's accounts table.
- The Used by list in the preset's header, and the In use and Channels columns of the presets table.
- In a preset's sections, each setting's row shows whether its value is the preset's own (with a Preset tag) or the account's.
Ideal Settings & Trading Strategy
Scenario 1 — Single-account, single preset (conservative)
Setup: $4,000 personal account, one channel, one MetaTrader account. You want safer-than-default behaviour on this channel only.
Settings ("Cautious" preset assigned to the channel):
- Lot Size: 0.01; Entry Strategy: Front-Loaded
- TP Strategy: Progressive; Active TP Levels: Keep Signal Settings
- Breakeven: On at TP1+; BE Buffer: 3 pips; Trailing Stop: Off; Open TP Mode: Disabled
- Extreme Value Handling: Reject Signal
- Assignment: on the channel card, click the preset in the status line → "Cautious"
Why: One channel, one account, one preset — the simplest assignment. Tight, early-protection settings while the channel earns trust.
Watch for: Because there's only one account, no account slider shows. That's correct, not a missing feature.
Switch when: You add a second account or the channel proves out.
Scenario 2 — Broadcast channel, different preset per account (balanced + prop)
Setup: $50,000 prop account plus $5,000 personal account, both fed by the same trend-forex channel.
Settings (two presets, assigned per account on the one channel):
- "Prop Balanced" on the funded account: Lot Size 0.10, TP Strategy Progressive, Active TP Levels 3 TPs, Breakeven TP1+, Cancel Limits from TP TP1+, Fast Market Protection Close Position, Trailing Stop Off.
- "Personal Trend" on the personal account: Lot Size 0.20, TP Strategy Extended, Open TP Mode Last TP Open (Runner), Trailing Stop On 25 pips.
- Assignment: on the channel's page, the funded account's Preset cell → "Prop Balanced"; then the personal account's Preset cell → "Personal Trend".
Why: One channel, two risk personalities, set independently because the channel broadcasts to both accounts. The funded account stays disciplined for the firm's rules; the personal account chases the move.
Watch for: Check the account in the picker's title ("Preset for … on …") every time — on a card, the picker acts on the account chosen in the slider.
Switch when: You pass the prop challenge — loosen "Prop Balanced" toward "Personal Trend."
Scenario 3 — News-restricted swap (event-driven)
Setup: $30,000 account, a channel that trades through high-impact news. You keep two presets and swap between them around events.
Settings:
- "Open Market" preset: Lot Size 0.10, 4 layers, Front-Loaded, Open TP Mode Last TP Open (Runner), Trailing Stop On 30 pips.
- "News Safe" preset: Lot Size 0.03, 2 layers, Front-Loaded, TP Strategy Progressive, Active TP Levels 2 TPs, Open TP Mode Disabled, Breakeven TP1+, Fast Market Protection Close Position.
- Routine: before the release, switch the channel's preset to "News Safe"; after the dust settles, switch back to "Open Market".
Why: News spikes blow through wide entry zones and reverse violently. The News Safe preset shrinks size, drops runners, and exits hard on adverse breakeven moves. The Open Market preset is free to ride trends the rest of the time.
Watch for: The swap changes how new signals are handled straight away, and News Safe's tighter management rules (breakeven, close-on-adverse) can start applying to a position that's already open — but it won't resize or re-layer that open position. Swap before the release so new entries come in small.
Switch when: This becomes routine — consider keeping the channel on News Safe permanently and only loosening when you're watching the screen.
