Connecting MetaTrader
To execute trades automatically, TTMT needs to communicate with your broker account. TTMT connects to your MetaTrader 4 or 5 account securely through the cloud -- no VPS required.
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have:
- Broker account credentials -- your Login ID, Trading Password, and Server Name
- Platform type -- know whether your account is MT4 or MT5
- An active TTMT account -- with Telegram already connected
Use your Trading Password, not the Investor Password
The Investor Password gives read-only access. TTMT needs the Trading Password (sometimes called the Master Password) to place and manage orders.
Step-by-Step Connection
1. Start the Connection
During onboarding (Step 3), or from the Accounts page in the dashboard, click Add Account.
2. Select Your Broker
Search for your broker by name. TTMT supports hundreds of brokers worldwide. The search will show matching server names (e.g., ICMarkets-Live01, FTMO-Demo).
If your broker is not listed: You can upload a server file (.srv) to add unlisted brokers. This file is available from your broker's MT4/MT5 installation directory or their support team.
3. Enter Your Credentials
Fill in the form carefully:
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Account Name | A friendly label for this account | "FTMO Challenge", "Personal Demo" |
| Login | Your numerical account ID | 12345678 |
| Password | Your trading password | (not the Investor password) |
| Server | Your broker's server name | ICMarkets-Live01 |
| Platform | MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 | MT5 |
4. Symbol Selection
After entering credentials, TTMT discovers the symbols available on your broker account. You can review and confirm which symbols you want to trade.
TTMT automatically matches common signal names (like 'GOLD') to your broker's specific symbol name (like 'XAUUSD.ecn'). This works out of the box for most brokers. If a symbol is not matched automatically, you can set up a manual mapping in your account settings.
5. Connecting Your Account
Click Connect. TTMT will now set up the connection to your broker:
- A progress indicator shows the connection status
- This typically takes 1-3 minutes
- Once complete, the account appears with a Connected (green) status badge
What happens during setup?
TTMT creates a secure, encrypted connection to your broker. The connection only has permission to manage trades on your specific account -- it cannot access any other MetaTrader account. Each connection is independently secured.
How Your Account Is Protected
TTMT takes a zero-trust approach to broker connections:
- Each connected account has its own independently secured credentials
- Your credentials are fully encrypted when stored
- TTMT can only manage trades on your specific account -- no other accounts are accessible
- Even in the unlikely event of a security incident, only a single account's trade-only access could be affected
Demo vs. Live Accounts
TTMT works identically with both Demo and Live accounts.
- Demo accounts -- Perfect for testing new channels, strategies, or settings changes. Zero financial risk.
- Live accounts -- For real capital, after you have validated your setup on demo.
- Prop firm accounts -- Fully supported. Many TTMT users trade funded accounts.
Risk Warning
Automated trading carries risk. We strongly recommend running any new channel or strategy on a Demo Account for at least 3-5 days before switching to a Live account. TTMT provides the tools -- risk management is your responsibility.
Multiple Accounts
You can connect more than one MetaTrader account to TTMT. Common setups include:
- Demo + Live -- test on demo, deploy proven strategies to live
- Multiple brokers -- diversify execution across brokers
- Prop firm accounts -- manage challenges alongside personal accounts
Each account operates independently. You assign specific channels to specific accounts using the channel-account assignment system -- you choose which channels trade on which accounts, giving you fine-grained control over which signals trade where.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| "Connection Failed" | Double-check your password (case-sensitive). Verify the correct server is selected. Check that your account is not disabled by the broker. |
| "Read Only" error | You are using the Investor Password. Update to the Trading Password in account settings. |
| Broker not listed | Upload a .srv server file from your broker's MT4/MT5 installation directory. |
| Connection setup stuck | Wait up to 5 minutes. If it does not complete, try disconnecting and reconnecting. Contact support if the issue persists. |
| "Symbol not found" | Your broker may use non-standard symbol names. Check the Symbol Mapping section in account settings. |
Next Steps
Both connections are in place. Now let's pick the channels you want to trade from.
