Editing Settings and Presets
Not live yet
This page describes the new Settings editor. It is being rolled out and is not switched on for everyone. If your Settings page still has the Sections / One page switch, Simple / Full and the Explanations switch, you are on the current editor: read Layouts and views instead. Availability and wording may change before general release.
Account defaults and presets use one editor. A preset page shows the same sections, in the same order, as Account defaults, so you already know where everything is. What the preset page adds is a layer that shows, for every setting, whether the preset follows your account or sets its own value.
Two views and one filter
The Settings view | Compact list switch in the header replaces the old Sections / One page, Simple / Full and Explanations controls. TTMT remembers your choice.
| View | What you get |
|---|---|
| Settings view | Every section on one page with a section list that jumps to each one. Each row shows its one-line help. |
| Compact list | One dense line per setting: the setting, where its value comes from, and the value. The help sits behind a ?. |
The filter row reads Every setting | Only what this preset changes. On Account defaults the second choice reads Only what differs from TTMT defaults. Use it to review what a preset does without scrolling through everything it leaves alone.
How a preset row looks
On a preset, each setting is in one of two states.
| State | What you see |
|---|---|
| Follows the account | A dashed grey "ghost" of the account's value, with the line From {account}. Change the control and the setting becomes the preset's own. |
| Set in this preset | The control in the preset's colour, a Preset chip, and the line Set in this preset. The account's value is shown next to it with a ↺ Use account value button. |
Next to a value the preset has set, TTMT may add "Same as the account today". That line is shown only when the saved value matches the account's value right now, and the value stays what you saved if the account changes later. Only a setting the preset leaves alone follows the account.
If a preset runs on more than one account, a setting it leaves alone follows each account separately, and the row lists each account's own value.
Putting a setting back
↺ Use account value returns a setting to following the account. In the Compact list the same button sits in the Comes from column.
You can revert more than one setting at a time:
- ↺ Use account values for this section (n)… sits on each section header.
- ↺ Use account values for all n… sits in the preset header.
Both open a confirm that names each change as "{setting}: {preset value} → {account value}", so you see exactly what will move before you agree. The revert is checked on every account the preset runs on.
A revert is disabled, with its reason, when an account or a settings rule refuses it. The row then offers Change in Account defaults. For example, a stored volume mode and its risk amount belong together, so one can't be reverted on its own if that leaves the other without what it needs.
A few preset settings have no account value to go back to. A preset's own daily budget amounts are an example: they are cleared (Clear), which turns that budget off, instead of following the account.
Account-only sections
Some settings belong to the account and can't differ by preset. Inside a preset they are read-only, marked Account only, with a Change in Account defaults link. Counting credit as capital and Oracle notifications on a veto are two of them. The Daily limits section is account-wide too: it applies while daily limits are on for the account, and a preset can't loosen it.
The save bar
Nothing is stored until you save. When you change something, a bar at the bottom reads {n} unsaved settings on {scope}, where the scope is the account or the preset you are editing. It has two buttons:
- Save stores every draft change at once.
- Discard drops the draft after asking first.
The bar no longer lists each change. The rows themselves show what changed, and the filter Only what this preset changes lists every setting that differs. Saving and history covers what happens when a setting was changed somewhere else.
